Tool Design and Manufacture

D & G offer a comprehensive toolmaking and tool maintenance service.

SLA/SLS or vacuum cast rapid prototypes can be supplied prior to tooling to reduce the risk of modifications and ensure the shortest time to production of the moulded parts.

When the product has been finalised and the most economic production method established a custom made mould tool will be designed and manufactured.

Various forms of data can be used to create the tool drawing and CNC cutter paths. Typically this is supplied as either 3D or 2D electronic data but a simple hand sketch is sufficient.

Tooling can be manufactured in aluminium, pre-toughened or fully hardened tool steel depending on the production requirements.

Mould core and cavity separation can be automatically identified and a 3D part line produced using CAD/CAM software specific to mould design. The shape of the component is precisely controlled using the 3D electronic data produced by the component designer.
